Here's to you Rodney Alan

Hello! I do hope all is well with you. It's been a little while since my last posting. I have been busy getting three of my card commissions done for people that I'd promised would have their cards before I leave on my long trip overseas . So the next three posts will be showing you the three cards I have made.

This first card was commissioned as a 60th Birthday card for Rodney Alan. The brief was that he loves Ties, the colour Blue, loves the Don Lane show,  has many collections of vinyl records and particularly likes the 50's and 60's.

So let me show you his card:

I used Riddersholm Paper from the Turquoise Collection and layered this onto Navy Kaiser craft weave card stock and Denim Kaiser craft weave card stock.

The card measures 81/2" x 9" approximately.

The Ties; well I just cut out tie shapes in a whole heap of blue scraps that I had (I needed 13 in all) and then used gold Peel-offs to spell "Happy Birthday" across them. I used Blue and white bakers twine to string them together across the top of the card front. This helped me space them out the way that I wanted.

I used my computer to generate Rodney Alan's name (twice so I could decoupage it) as well as the "You are very special.

For the Don Lane collection, I made a little album using the Riddersholm papers. Then I googled his shows and copied images onto photo paper and printed them off. I used one of the images to place in the little metal frame I had (I think from Making Memories) which I used for the front of the mini-album. .I layered the other images onto some blue papers from DCWV Bright mat stack. Once I had them all pasted together I used 2 blue brads from my stash to hold the album together and then adhered the back page with DST to the front of the card. For the Hearts I used the shapes feature on my PC and fussy cut them out and layered them with DST (Double sided Tape).

I made a little satchel type envelope first  using more of the Riddersholm papers, then stuck this to the front of my card and added 60 Today in gold Peel-offs.

The records I cut using Black Art Fun Foam sheets,  which I cut using one of the smaller Spellbinders Classic Circles Dies S4-114.

I used a small CP1 Carl circle punch to cut out the orange labels which I stuck to the foam and hand wrote titles of songs from the 60's.

I used a Molotow white paint pen to add a little "shine" to the vinyl records. (This took me back a few years I don't mind telling you!!!).

Lastly I decorated the inside of the card. Very simply:
Firstly I added a Blue and White Striped sheet of paper (from my stash) and stuck this to my card base. I used Spellbinders Splendid Circles S4-354, using the Navy card stock and Spellbinders Eyelet Circles S4-304 using the Denim Card stock to create my medallion. I added the "Happy Birthday" sentiment n white Peel-offs to finish it off.

I added the last of the six "vinyl" disks at the bottom of the page.

Thanks for popping in to catch up with me. The Internet connection is playing up a bit as we have VERY strong winds "Howling" outside at the moment and also our telephone is off-line intermittently which also suggests that there are problems. So I'll drop by again when all is working again. Bye for now.

Made in Dorrigo Day - "Christmas in July" held on 14th July 2012

Hi, I promised to come back to you to tell you how my Card stall did at the Made in Dorrigo Day we had in our town today. Frits and I had a Fantastic time - well I did and he was such a good sport for helping me out. I do think he enjoyed chatting with people as they came by.

Our town has 1192 people in it, so for a town it is quite small. Dorrigo sits on a beautiful plateau found in the mid-north coast of New South Wales (on the Eastern Seaboard of Australia). We are, as a town, 762metres above sea level so we live on a little mountain really! Our Made in Dorrigo day was arranged to help celebrate "Christmas in July". As we get our winter at this time of the year, we and other places in Australia acknowledge this concept as a bit of fun.

We arrived at our designated spot at 7.00am and were set up fairly quickly.
Here is our stall, all set up and ready to go:

Even the Galah's got interested in all the activity in town; these pink and grey parrots are lovely to see and they visit this area quite frequently.

The Made in Dorrigo Day is also great for the local businesses in town; as people come to visit from near and far. They often say they are glad they came up the mountain to see us - we are glad to see them too!

You can see it start to get a little busy in the main street of town, as more people visit us - which is lovely, given that the weather was very changeable. All the locals said it wouldn't rain. You know what? We finished at 2.00pm and it started to very gently rain at 2.01pm - Perfect timing.

We were lucky in the placement of our stall, as we were close to a great little band playing lively and interesting music. Great voices too!

And look at Frits, being so good. He was such a Star . . . and look at that he even had his Dorrigo Hoody on! Very supportive in advertising our lovely little town. Just in case anyone got hungry we had a Great "Battered Fried Spicy Potato Twist" stall near us too. The smell was divine, drove us to distraction - so we just had to get one or two. All in support of the local town of course!

In the community hall we had demonstrations of leather work, making whips, bracelets, belts and a whole range of other items, as well as Wool spinning. Fingers need to be nimble to do this well. There were also articles of clothing made from this beautifully soft wool available to buy.

It was a very successful time for us. We sold lots of cards and this means we (I) can fund the purchase of replacements so I can make even more cards. Woohoo!

So no card today, however I hope you enjoyed hearing about (and seeing a little of) our Made in Dorrigo Day - Christmas in July event. I'll be back to posting a card tomorrow! Bye for now.

"Wishing on a Dandelion" card

I hope your day is going really well. I am in full swing preparing for our Town's special day. It is called "Made in Dorrigo". The rules are simple. Anything made, grown or manufactured by people in the town can be sold at your own stall. It runs from 08.00am until 2.00pm. This special day is run approximately each quarter and different from the regular Saturday markets held each month. I'll tell you how it goes in my next post!

My card for today I have called "Wishing on a Dandelion". Let me show it to you:

I firstly used my Spellbinders Grand scalloped Circles LF-124. to create my card base. When using this die I made sure not to cut completely through the side edges on my folded piece of white card so that in effect, I created a hinge. I also cut another separate piece using the Grand die, that I used for the very top of my card which I then stuck in its entirety onto the front of the hinged card base.

Next I cut a piece of Kaiser Craft 61/2” x 61/2” Paper Pad – Miss Nelly with my Spellbinders Grand Circles Die LF-114.

I added a lovely piece of lace from my stash across this Design Paper which is in between my next two layers of Green and Yellow card. I embossed these pieces of card stock from DCWV using different sized dies from the Spellbinders Grand Labels Twenty Three LF-347.

The image is a Wee Stamps Digi called "Dandelion Girl," which I printed onto white blending card and coloured with my Prisma Color Pencils. Once all coloured up I cut out the image using my Spellbinders Labels Twenty Three S4-347 die. I also used the "cut out of the die technique" so the Dandelion pieces wouldn't be cut off from the rest of the image.

Lastly I added a piece of beautiful yellow ribbon and a gorgeous little metal embellishment which says ...  I "heart" to Garden (apologies no idea where I got this from).

It's a lovely card and one of my Customers already bought this and said her friend (the recipient and also a gardener) was thrilled with it and has now taken the metal embellishment and added it to her Key Ring as a reminder.

How cool is that!!

So all the details for this pretty little card are now captured for you. Hope you like it. It was certainly fun to make! I hope you have a great day today.

Happy Birthday Fun "Tri-shutter" fold card

Hello, how are you?
It's been a very wintery day here today. I s'pose because we live on a mountain the weather has really drawn in. It is winter time here so it kind of goes with the territory (forgive the pun!). If you live across the other side of the globe you may have a warmer time of it. Mind you, you take the weather with you don't you? Meaning it can be really miserable outside but sunny on the inside.

My card today is a fun one. It is a "Tri-shutter" fold card. Let me show you . . .

The basic instructions to make the base card can be found on the Split Coast Stampers website, resources section.

I used a green coloured card-stock from my ever faithful DCWV Neutral Card stock Stack Pack.

Then all the panels were covered with patterned design paper. The selection included:
Crafters Choice Pastel Basics 120 Paper Pack
K& Company 12" x 12" Daisy Printed Embossed Paper item code: 643077 63479.
Once the panels were covered it was a question of adding all the embellishments.

On the front panel:
I used JustRite Stamp set, Topsy Turvy Cakes – CR-02230 and Memento Black Tuxedo ink pad and stamped my images onto X-press it blending card.
I coloured the cake with Prisma Color Pencils and blended the colours using the Gamsol Technique with Stumps and Gamsol. There is a video showing you how to do this, click> HERE.
I then cut and embossed my image using Spellbinders Classic Ovals Large S4-110.

On the middle panel:
I used JustRite Stamp set, Botanical Butterflies CR-02245  and Memento Black Tuxedo ink pad and stamped my images onto X-press it blending card. I used my Prisma Color Pencils again and blended them together as before with Stumps and Gamsol.
I cut and embossed this image using Spellbinders Standard Circles LG S4-114.

Additional embellishments used were: October Afternoon SIDEWALKS Chip'n Stick Chipboard Stickers CB830, NitWit Collections – So Berry Precious Label/Tag, Hero Arts Stamps & Sizzix, Die Cut Antique Flowers & Butterflies, Martha Stewart Large Monarch Butterfly, Golden Yellow Wire Butterfly and Dragonfly from Spotlight and a Gold Peel-Off Happy Birthday sentiment.

Here is a more detailed (and visual)  list of the ingredients I used:

So there you have it, a "Tri-shutter" fold card. One of my first and I really enjoyed making it. I'm sure I'll make more of these styles of cards now I have tried this particular fold.
Thanks for stopping by.
