An Invitation to a 70th Birthday

Hi my blogging friends. How are you? I have been out of things for a little while. As some of you know it is now day 11 after my second knee replacement operation and this knee (on the the right side) is definitely not behaving like the first! I understand it was in particularly poor shape, hence why it needed replacing and that may have a lot to do with the struggle I am having with pain and swelling. It's getting under control but testing my patience some what!
I have the staples removed tomorrow and my second physiotherapy session. I'll keep you posted!

I can now reveal the big commission I was asked to complete and have mentioned to you previously. I can show you the project now as they have been received and will be in the post to people shortly. The actual date for the Birthday celebrations doesn't fall until February and I am told that the invites will go out with Christmas cards so people can plan ahead.

Here is the invite:

I just loved the stamp by Kraftin' Kimme which I had seen on one of the blogs I look at. I am soooo sorry I cannot remember which - if I think of it I'll certainly come back and let you know.
The key theme for the invite was to involve Motor bikes. I showed Alison who had asked me to make the invites for her; a couple of images and she loved and chose "Danny".

I made the base of the card on my computer. I used a variety of Google images on top of some layers of blue (to create what looked like matted layers). I really loved the Denim pocket, the rest were just different images of Denim, which I layered together. I "inked" the edges by using a shadow effect in the graphics program I used.  I then added an oil splodge which I felt just fitted with everything.

I used memento London Fog to ink my stamp and then I coloured the image using a variety of Copics. I then used foam pads to add dimension to the image on the front of the invite and also to the words "An Invitation" which I also made on my computer.

On the inside of the invitation, I made some background paper using an image of a Harley Motor Bike on top of which I adhered (with DST - Double Sided Tape) the two parts of the invite - Alison had provided for me what she wanted to say. I have covered details for privacy reasons.

... and there you have it. I made 50 of these and that was a first for me!

Here are the main ingredients that I used to make this invite:

Thanks for stopping by today and reading my post. Are you ready for Christmas? "Tempus Fugit" - Time certainly is fleeing!

The Rose Collector Fairy

G'day. Where did the last 36 hours go to? Time has just run away from me!
Do you experience that too - when you have been busy, you've done your "To Do" list for the day and you come up for air only to discover that your time frame seems to have slipped from the warp speed of life as it has gone on around you?

I also have a short report about the new "Spiderman" movie to give you as promised. (We were invited to the premier showing in Coffs Harbour (about an hour from us) yesterday). I will not give the story line or indeed the plot away; it's a definite "Go see it for yourself". It was REALLY good. Seeing it in 3D meant there were moments when you felt you were the one on the end of the spider thread as he weaved his way across the city. All I will say is this .... Do NOT get up from your seat until at least half of the credits have appeared (BIG clue!)

My card for today is the last of the Fairies that I have in my Stamp collection

Let me show you the card.
How the card was constructed:

I stamped the fairy using Memento Rich Cocoa Ink onto White Neenah Solar card.
I coloured her using a mixture of Copics and Prisma Pencils.
I used Spellbinders Beaded Ovals S4-294 to cut and emboss the image and layering on Black DCWV card stock.
I used my Crafter's Block 1 Paper pad for the background Design Paper.
I used a Martha Stewart Deco Fan punch to cut a strip in a darker coloured lilac paper, on top of this I placed a strip of pink plain paper on top of which I laid the strip of paper I cut from the main DP of the background paper used (used up my scraps!).

Here's a compilation of my card.
You can see the pearls added to the strip adhered behind the oval medallion.
I added purple square crystals to add some bling to the medallion before sticking it to the card.

The butterfly and sentiment tag were from my stash.
and there you have it.

Opps! Harrison Is it 9 or is it 10?

Hello, how are you today?

We have just had a lovely weekend. It was a real entertainment weekend, as well as an opportunity to celebrate our Grandson Harrison's Birthday. More on that later!

On Friday (22nd June) we travelled on the (VERY) early Train from Coffs Harbour to Sydney (about 8 hours journey time) and then went to see "Under Milk Wood" at the Stage Theatre at the Opera House that evening.

On Saturday (Matinee at 2.00pm) we went to see "An Officer and a Gentleman" musical at the Lyric Theatre at the Star Casino. It was Fabulous. I cannot understand why this show got such critical vitriol. It was a really good show.
Then on to see Snow White and the Huntsman at the cinema  at 18.45. This is a dark film but ohhhh it was lovely. Great effects AND it may be open for a part 2 (we think!)!!

On Sunday (24th June) we met the family (Jim, Tiff, Marley and Harrison) who all came into Sydney for 11.00am to celebrate Harrison's Birthday.  (Harrison brought 2 of his school friends as part of his Birthday treat) and we all went to the Sydney  Madame Tussauds. Then we travelled to Tiff and Jim's home for the Sunday night before travelling back home on the Monday. THis was an important part of the strategy as you will hear about below!

All is all a fabulous weekend.

Well it is 9 or is it 10?

So that Harrison would receive a Birthday card I made and sent it early.
Here it is.

All good I thought. Then we had a chat with Harrison on the 20th June (his Birthday) only to discover a) the card hadn't arrived and b) he was celebrating his 10th not his 9th. How had we lost a year????? More importantly how could we rescue the card????

The culprit, we now discover is that our Birthday Calendar was showing 2003 and should have shown 2002. OK that is now fixed.

We asked Tiffany to intercept the card and as we would see them on the 24th I quickly made a "10" to replace the "9" I had placed on his card.

Unfortunately Harrison got to the card before we did, fortunately he saw the funny side.

I quickly whipped out my newly made "10" and replaced it, so all was now in order.
(This may be the CDO kicking in here!!)

Harrison was quite impressed with my colouring which he didn't realise I had done. I had to say that not only had I coloured it but that I had stamped it too.
(The stamp was one I have had in my collection for a while: I don't know where I bought it [it may have been from QVC when I was in the UK?] but it has a JB 6 F stamped on the wooden block. I used a Memento Tuxedo Black ink pad to stamp it onto white express -it paper).
Harrison was then VERY impressed!

I used a variety of Copics as well as a clear Spica pen to add a bit of gloss. I even added a little red smudge over the pocket to show how the ball had been shone.

The main ingredients that I used to my Harrison's Card:

So the mystery is solved, the answer is definitely 10. The birthday card is up to date and all is well with the world!

Thanks for stopping by to read about my travels and tribulations, it was a fun weekend that's for sure. I'd love to know you've been so please leave me a comment, they're lovely to receive.
