Amazing what you can make from your stash/scraps - A Birthday Card

Hello, How are you today?

I was inspired when I went to visit with my sister Clare, when I was recently (February 2016) working in the UK. We were up in her crafting space over the weekend I was there with her and we each decided to make a quick card. Her comment was "Sally-Ann, it would really help me if you could use some of what is sitting in this pile in the middle of my desk". It was quite a pile! So we both used what was there. I'll show you my card tomorrow.

This lead me to thinking. I wonder if you, like me, have a little pile somewhere on your crafting table; perhaps it is a little box, for me it is a series of envelopes. In these places are all the bits and bobs you place there that may be useful "ONE DAY"!

On my"ONE" day, last weekend, I had lost my crafting Mojo and I wanted to do/create something.
I originally started by clearing up my desk. Frankly it was a shambles! This is where it all began.
I thought I might tidy up said envelopes. There were bits and  things I'd dropped in there that I had forgotten I had and today's card was the output. It took me about 15 minutes to make this card - mostly from scraps.

Here it is:

The only thing I had to go and get was the Black and Red paper - which was from a very old Creative Memories paper pack. Everything else was on my desk!!!! I used 2 sheets of 5"x 7" American Crafts card stock, adhering them with a 1" strip which I then scored down the centre, added Double Sided Tape to and then placed the 2 sheets of AC card stock on top - essentially creating a separate hinge along the top long edge.

I'd been making some flowers with my new Heartfelt Creations Delightful Daisy dies. I still have a little pile to be used. They will appear in forthcoming cards.

The leaves, well  I made a batch of these. also a few I'd cut from the Arianna lace background die. It's such a pretty die to use.

I added some Glossy Accents to the flowers with a pearl at their centre.

Same goes for the right hand bottom corner of the card.

In fact I cut up one of the leaves into smaller parts and re-glued the pieces together under the flower.

Isn't the little flower a darling? All shaped with my shaping tools.

The white central panel is from the Sue Wilson Spanish Collection - The Granada die. I remember cutting several and this one was left over. The little sentiment you see here was in one of my envelopes - no idea where I got it from. I added a piece of black card to both the white Granada main piece as a mat and also to the little sentiment adding 4 red pearls left over from my Christmas card making.

So you might guess at my next question.
What, I wonder, is sitting on your crafting table right now, that you can use to make a card or a scrapbook page .... or look at the piece you have kept and ask yourself  "Really, I kept you, why did I do that?"

I know we crafters never throw anything away - so my new motto (at least for the coming week is -Use it or lose it [or put it in a place with other things like it, so you lay your hands on it immediately and not have it just sit collecting dust in your box or envelope!!!]).

Here are the main ingredients that I sued to  make today's card:

Perhaps your next piece of crafting will use up some of those "Scraps" that alone look like nothing; yet when you put them together - like me - you'll be amazed!

  1. great card using scraps. my cardstock scraps go in one box and papers in another so I look in there to make something small like a flower or butterfly or such. cheers.
